Sunday September 11, Memorial Service for Queen Elizabeth II

Updated: Sep 10, 2022

This Sunday at 8 am and 10 am will be memorial communion services for Queen Elizabeth II. The services will essentially be the same, the 1662 Book of Common Prayer which the Queen loved, (and which in its own way, has served as a stable and continuous foundation for prayer and discipleship for Anglicans for many centuries). There will be a moment of silence observed, a memorial collect, and special readings. We also pray for King Charles III. That the Lord will comfort him and his family, heal wounds, and grant him wisdom to serve as our Monarch in the years to come. The Monarchs embody principles of governance and order which transcend their own personality, character, and life story. Queen Elizabeth embodied this in a unique way, but Charles will embody it also. In the Anglican way Monarchs uniquely point towards a future in which civil life and divine worship are unified and holy. We cannot achieve this holy coherence here on earth, of course, but we strive for it. We offer to the Lord every aspect of our lives as worship and continue to pray every Sunday for our King and all he represents: "We beseech thee... to save and defend all Christian Kings, Princes, and Governors; and specially thy servant CHARLES our King; that under him we may be godly and quietly governed: And grant unto him whole Council, and to all that are put in authority under him, that they may truly and indifferently minister justice, to the punishment of wickedness and vice, and to the maintenance of thy true religion, and virtue." In Christ and Under the Mercy, Lars+
